TALLAHASSEE – House Majority Leader Andy Gardiner (R-Orlando) today outlined
his optimism for a successful and principled start to the 2006 Legislative Session.
The following is his statement:
"House Republicans look forward to making the 2006 Legislative Session a forum for
real reform and an opportunity to forge ahead with our commitment to Florida’s future.
Looking back at our record of achievement, we stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Governor
Jeb Bush in solidifying a record of making historic changes in the way state government
serves its citizens.
"We have shown the leadership to implement new ideas for more effective and efficient
government through greater accountability. We are able to provide better services
for needy citizens through improved accountability in the system. Specifically,
we have embraced a policy of delivering tax relief to Florida’s families by systematically
unraveling decades of antiquated, regressive tax policies that served to inhibit
rather than foster productivity in the economy.
"We are unashamed of our record of reducing taxes, and welcome critics to review
that record with accuracy, not obscure methodologies that fail to paint an exact
picture of our economy’s vibrancy.
"In the next sixty days, we plan to stand, as we always have, on principles that
have produced better outcomes and better lives for Floridians. As Florida continues
to support a Republican majority in the Legislature and the Governor’s Mansion,
we will continue to present and implement new ideas to secure an even better future."
